RCC Design

Structural Design The structural division offers comprehensive structural engineering services for building and bridge structures, emergency response of hazardous conditions, and condition evaluation and remediation services for existing structures.  Our structural division has a thorough understanding of structural systems for both private clients and developers, as well as for municipal and governmental agencies.

 
The project consisted of the construction of an eleven-story steel framed building, a portion of which was to be built over an existing six story timber and masonry framed building. Duties included maintaining the stability of the existing building during construction and sequencing the installation of the proposed mini-pile foundation system that was to support the new and existing buildings. A light gage steel truss system mounted to the underside of each floor was designed to temporarily stabilize the structure until the core was constructed and attached to the floor framing at each level.

The project was an emergency design-build effort to plug the two PATH train tunnels at the Exchange Place Station in response to the events of September 11th, 2001. The work included the design and preparation of construction drawings for the installation of each 15-foot diameter plug, including piping for dewatering of the framework. Our design work was authorized on Thursday, with preliminary design due Monday. Final documents for construction were submitted eight days after authorization.

The project included the structural design and preparation of contract documents for additions to the Forestdale and Deane-Porter schools, totaling approximately 21,000 square feet. The work included classroom additions and expansion of the gymnasium. The additions were primarily designed with a combination of steel framing and load bearing masonry walls supporting steel roof joints.

The project was a design-build effort with our parent Company Railroad Construction Company to construct a 45-foot long single span railroad bridge over County Route 579 near the Ringoes’ station. The bridge, which carries freight and excursion traffic was heavily damaged by vehicular impact and required replacement.
